Nigerian singer Tems has become something of a history breaker since her original work with Wizkid on the song Essence emerged. This time, the singer whose real name is Temilade Openiyi has gotten another feather on her cap by landing a nomination of the movie industry coveted award, the Oscars Award.
Her nomination for the 95th edition of the Oscars which is scheduled to hold on 12th March, 2023 is a feat never achieved by any Nigerian musician. The announcement of this feat happened via the original twitter handle of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’, where the 2023 nomination list was released.
Singer Tems received her nomination thanks to her collaboration with multiple award winning singer Rihanna on the song “Lift Me Up” which is a theme song for high grossing Marvel movie – Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever.
Temilade Openiyi alongside Rihanna received the nomination for Lift me up in the ‘Best Original Song’ category of the award.
The big question now is, will singer Tems be the first Nigerian to win an Oscars Award?
