If you’ve been waiting for news on the old naira notes deadline, and hoping that the CBN would somehow consider people in villages and without banks, please be advised that the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele has said there’ll be no deadline extensions.
At the end of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting held in Abuja yesterday, the CBN Governor addressed journalists where he confirmed that there won’t be any form of extension. He instead told people who are probably scared to turn in huge old notes due to anti-graft agencies like the EFCC on the prowl that they shouldn’t worry about that.
This is coming on the heels of the red and green chambers seeking for a six-month extension of the old notes retrieval deadline.
Summarily, the deadline of the old notes retrieval which is listed at 31st January still holds, as such, if you’re still in possession of same, be sure to turn them in.
